Body Lotion

Lotion candles are quickly becoming more and more known in the beauty and wellness industry. But, what exactly is a lotion candle? And how do you use one?

What Are Lotion Candles?

Lotion candles are a hybrid of lotions and candles. These products are lotions that come in solid form, which you can then light to melt down into a warm lotion. They do not burn your skin when applied. Instead, the warm, buttery lotion makes your skin feel lovely and smooth.

You might wonder why it is even necessary to turn lotion into candle form. A candle lotion, though, serves two functions. Apart from being a lotion that you can apply to your skin, it is also a candle that burns to fill the room with a soothing aroma.

What Are the Benefits of Lotion Candles?

To anyone who has never heard of them, lotion candles might seem like a totally new, foreign product. And it is easy to dismiss something you have never tried before as a mere fad. But, lotion candles actually do come with a multitude of benefits compared to the average lotion (or even the average candle).

If you need some more convincing, here are reasons why you should give lotion candles a shot:

1. Total Body Use

Your daily skin care routine may be made up of multiple products. This is because not a lot of lotions are good for both your face and other parts of your body. Since the face is more sensitive, it usually requires a separate facial moisturizer. But, not with lotion candles.

A good lotion candle is safe for total body use. That means you can use the product both on your face and everywhere else. With lotion candles, you only need to invest in one product, saving you both money and storage space on your vanity dresser.

2. Moisturizing

Dry skin is a real problem many Americans suffer from. It is also a problem that usually comes with age. In fact, about 85 percent of older people experience something called a “winter itch,” which stems from dry, indoor air. Additionally, as we age, we start to lose oil glands, which can further contribute to dry skin.

Regardless of your age, though, if you have dry skin, lotion candles can help. The ingredients that make up a good lotion candle are great for moisturizing dry, cracked skin, particularly when it comes to the neck and chest areas. It is also good for freshly shaved legs.

3. All-Natural

Many skincare products boast having “all-natural” ingredients but actually do more harm to your skin than good. A good lotion candle should contain no alcohol, bee’s wax, paraffin, or parabens. Instead, it relies on cosmetic-grade, plant-based natural ingredients such as African shea butter, soya, aloe vera, jojoba, and coconut, as well as olive and avocado oils.

With today’s beauty market experiencing such high demand, it can be tempting to go for cheaper products made with synthetic ingredients or knock-offs that claim to be the real thing. But, those products can damage your skin significantly. Some never even recover. When you buy a trusted lotion candle, though, you can rest easy knowing that your skin is only getting the best, all-natural ingredients.

4. Leaves No Residue

One of the not-so-great things about lotions is that they leave a greasy residue on your skin. You might even wash them away or rub them off because they remain just on the top layer of your skin. The same can’t be said for lotion candles, though.

By design, a candle lotion is applied warm. The slight heat from the product opens up your pores just enough so that your skin absorbs the lotion more effectively. As a result, no product remains on the top layer, leaving your skin smooth and free of that usual greasy feeling.

5. Great for Skin Problems

A lot of people who have used lotion candles have said that they work great for nails, cuticles, scars, stretch marks, and even tattoos. Of course, not everyone experiences the same results, and you should never use this product on a tattoo that has not yet completely healed.

6. Good for Massage Use

Sometimes, all you want after a long day of work is a good body massage. For that, you can use lotion candles, as well. The warm lotion feels great on your skin. And, because of its moisturizing properties and all-natural ingredients, you can use it for back rubs, foot rubs, and even full-body massages.

7. Comes in a Variety of Aromas

Lotion candles take scented candles to a whole new level. Aside from being a moisturizing lotion, these products are also great for aromatherapy. There are a number of different scents you can choose from, ranging from classic citrus scents to more experimental food scents. There is a perfect scent for every occasion and for every person. These candles even come in unscented form for those who prefer lotions with no fragrances.

How Do You Use Lotion Candles?

There are two ways you can use lotion candles — by lighting the wick and by using a candle warmer.

1. Wick Method

For the wick method, all you need to do is light the wick as you would normally do a candle. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes for enough lotion to liquefy and pool around the top of the candle jar. At this point, you can blow out the wick so that it does not further melt the lotion. Make sure to trim the wick before each use. From there, you can just dip your hand into the lotion and apply it directly to your skin. After applying the lotion, simply wait about 60 seconds for the lotion to dry completely.

2. Candle Warmer Method

For the candle warmer method, simply place the jar on a warmer and wait for the lotion to melt. In this case, the entire jar of lotion will liquefy. Take the wick out and dispose of it. You can’t reuse the wick using this method. All in all, it will take about 30 minutes for the entire jar to melt.

You can choose to keep the candle warmer on or turn it off. Keep in mind that if you turn it off, the lotion will solidify again. But, you can always use the candle warmer to melt the lotion down once more. The benefit of keeping the candle warmer on at all times is that you have a pool of warm lotion ready to use at any moment. Furthermore, it means you always have an aroma-filled room.

Great Skin and Soothing Scents All-Around

Whether you are new to the beauty world or not, lotion candles are worth a try. They offer plenty of benefits, not to mention, serve two purposes. Instead of buying a scented candle and a moisturizing lotion separately, lotion candles perfectly combine the two. Trying something new is always rather daunting. But, once you give candle lotions a shot, you wouldn’t want any other lotion touching your skin!
